Our latest Vimeo upload is one for the books – it’s our showreel for 2016. And we think it’s our best one yet.
‘We’ve definitely come far since 2015, which is why we needed to showcase some of our latest work,’ said Cal, Jumbla’s creative director. ‘It’s important to be relevant, and I think our last reel was at the start of last year… so it was certainly time for an update!’
The showreel displays the diversity and scope of our creative talent (but with our animators completing such fantastic work over the past 12 months, it was difficult to choose which works to include!). Animations that made the final cut include Childwise, Deakin University, Melbourne Spring Fashion Week, Y3llow, Grey Goo Cinematics, Carben Creative, and The Wilderness Society.
This selection spans across all kinds of clientele – from video game companies, event organisers, and athletes, to universities, charities, and government organisations.
‘I chose these animations because I wanted to show the varied styles of animation and designs we’re capable of at Jumbla,’ said Frankie, one Jumbla’s animators. ‘I mainly picked the ones where we had the most control over the creative process, in order to showcase our creativity.’
It’s a fantastic representation of the range of our capabilities and talents here at Jumbla, and testament to the quality of our work – almost every single animation featured in the showreel has won, or been a finalist for, an award.
‘As far as the quality of work is concerned, it’s certainly the best reel we’ve put together so far, and is a good indication of where we’re at as a studio,’ said Cal. ‘We’re very diverse and can tackle any style, and I think that shows. We’re also very big on training and development here at Jumbla, and that certainly comes across in the latest reel – you just have to look through our past reels and you can see the improvement on each iteration.’
The showreel’s music makes for a powerful accompaniment to some of our most moving and thought-provoking work. The song we chose was Miffed, by Tom Rosenthal, a folk musician based in London.
‘I picked Miffed because it had a good mixture of dreamy vocals, hi-hats, strings and piano,’ said Frankie. ‘It has many different sounds and beats, which means it was easy to cut and edit freely. The powerful tone of the song helped capture and communicate the grand quality of the showreel.’
Stay tuned: Cal added that ‘it’s exciting, because there’s still some other work we’ve completed that we can’t show just yet.’
