Our online commercial for Xero - Cloud St

Tell your friends or family you’re starting a business and they'll probably rate your chances of long-term success as slim-to-none.

Xero wants to eliminate this negative cliche with Cloud St, an initiative that has given businesses an opportunity to temporarily set-up shop at prime retail locations across Australia.

Our recent animation for Cloud St uses three real-world examples to prove you're never too young, too busy, or too late to start afresh with your own enterprise.

Credit to the client

"Xero sent across a PDF with references of what they were after, the script, and even a storyboard," Jumbla Creative Director Callan Woolcock said.

"That's really rare for us, as we often find ourselves coming up with the creative concept. But in this case, it was mainly developing what they had in mind."

Xero wanted elements of the video to resemble clay, only less ‘raw’. This was relatively straightforward for our creative team, who sourced objects like the clock and coins online before tweaking them to the required style.

But arguably the hero of the piece needed a little more attention...

"The dog took the longest - we had to create him from scratch," said Cal. "The process of modelling and rigging took around eight days."

With the main assets in place, it was time to add a bright colour palette, playful typography, and live action footage, again provided by Xero.

The finished animation glows in both appearance and tone - giving budding businessmen and women the hope they need to make their way in today's competitive commercial world.

The team to match a tight deadline

Cal handpicked a team with the time management skills to complete the job to a high standard and provide the client with progress reports throughout - all to a tight deadline.

“At the end of each week, we rendered out playblasts and sent them across to the client, along with images of the models,” said Cal.

“We did this every week, and after applying final textures and lighting, ended up with a really polished video.”

Cinema 4D was used to create the models and animation, Octane Renderer was the render engine, while After Effects was utilised for transitions and compositing.

“Nothing too fancy, just keeping it clean and simple for a really nice-looking animation,” said Cal.
