Being an animation studio, there are times when we like to push the boundaries of imagination… while at other times, we find inspiration in replicating scenes with authenticity. Our work for Frank’s Cider falls into the latter!
In addition to great taste, Frank’s Cider – founded in 1836 – is all about family and heritage. Fittingly, it was a family member – the granddaughter of “the” Frank – who came to us with this brief.
She wanted us to create a 20-second TV commercial to promote the premium beverage. Like the classic cider itself, the narrative for this TVC was clean and classy.
We were to depict the character of Frank entering the famous Frank’s barn, to order none other than (you guessed it!) a Frank’s cider. “I’ll have a Frank’s, thanks,” is the only voiceover heard.
The piece was to be simple, elegant and traditional – but most importantly, it had to be accurate. The family was particularly keen to see three things brought to life, true to form: Frank, the dog and the iconic cellar door (the former St John’s Church Hall, built in the 1870s).
We worked closely with the Frank’s team and studied photos carefully to capture these details… in turn, allowing us to give the audience a sense of what Frank’s heritage is all about.
